    Banana Flowers Spinach Khichdi Recipe | Vazhaipoo Keerai Khichdi with Step by step pictures. Another delicious khichdi with the goodness of banana flowers and spinach. Right now you would have got how I like to experiment my khichdi with different ingredients, so that my little ones don’t miss out on any of the veggies. Sure it is a trick. Now lets see how to prepare Vazhaipoo Keerai Khichdi.

    Banana Flowers Spinach Khichdi Khichdi
     
       Step by step Method with pictures: 
       1.    In a bowl add in the Rice along with moong dal and wash well and soak in water till you use. Heat a pressure cooker with ghee. Once its hot add in the Mustard seeds and cumin seeds let it splutter and then Green Chilli and Bay leaf,   Saute for few secs. Next add in the crushed ginger and green chilli saute for few secs and then add in the Bay leaf. Add in the garlic pods.

    2.    Next add in the chopped onions and saute till glossy, then add in the tomatoes cook till it turn soft and then add in the chopped banana flowers saute for 2 mins until the raw smell leaves in a low flame.

     3.    Next add in the cleaned and chopped spinach and saute for few mins , or until the spinach shrink a little .Now add in the Turmeric powder.

     4.    Next add in the required Salt. Mix well. Next add in the soaked moong dal and Rice fry for a min.

    5.    Add in the measured water. Mix well.Once it starts boiling close the pressure cooker. Cook for 4 whistles in a high flame and one more whistle in a medium flame and switch off wait till the pressure subsides on its own and then open the cooker. Garnish with coriander leaves and a tsp of ghee and serve hot.

    Serve hot

    Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml

    Ingredients

    • Oil / Ghee– 1 tbsp
    • Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
    • Cumin Seeds – ½ tsp
    • Bay leaf - 1
    • Green Chilli – 2

    • Cashew Nuts - 8
    • Onion – 1
    • Tomato – 1
    • Rice – ½ cup
    • Moong Dal – 2 tbsp
    • Banana Flowers– 2 tbsp
    • Spinach – ½ cup
    • Water – 3 cups
    • Turmeric power – ¼ tsp
    • Salt as needed
    • Coriander leaves to garnish

      Vazhai poo itself is a delicacy for us.. we dont get it too easily here. this khicdhi is so healthy adn filling esp with spinach and vazhai poo !

      I always make vazhai poo vadai or paruppu usili. Using it in kichadi is a great idea. As you said, its a perfect way to sneak in that veggie.
