    Basbousa | Eggless Semolina Cake

    Basbousa is an Egyptian sweet dish made of semolina. It is baked to perfection and finally soaked in sugar syrup.

    Basbousa is a traditional bake in Egypt and is very popular in the Middle Eastern Countries. It is made from Semolina and then soaked in sugar syrup and served.

    How to make Basbousa

    In a mixing bowl add Yogurt and condensed milk

    Next, add melted butter.

    Next, add Water and Baking powder and whisk everything together.

    Finally, add in Semolina and then fold everything together.

    Prepare a cake pan by greasing it with butter and line with parchment paper.

    Now pour the prepared batter into the baking pan. Preheat the oven to 356 F / 180 Deg C for about 10 mins. Bake at 356 F / 180 Deg C for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick when inserted comes out clean.

    Sugar Syrup

    For the sugar syrup in a sauce pan add in water and sugar.

    Bring everything to a boil in a medium flame. It takes around 8-10 mins.

    Finally, add Lemon Juice and switch off the flame.

    When the cake is slightly warm pour the sugar syrup. Let it soak for 30 mins. Slice and serve.

    Tips & Variations

    You can also add a drop of rose essence to the sugar syrup for a nice flavor.

    • ¼ cup Butter
    • ¼ cup Curd / Yogurt
    • ½ cup Water
    • ½ cup tsp Baking powder
    • ½ cup Condensed milk

    • ½ cup Water
    • ½ tsp Lemon Juice
