Bajra has cooling properties and Ragi is hot so both together give a balance hence this porridge can be had at any time of the year. Now let’s see how to prepare this perfect summer porridge.
How to make Ragi Bajra Porridge
2. Mix well such that it has no lumps and smooth. In another vessel add in 4 cups of water and bring it to boil.
3. Once it stats boiling add in the Ragi bajra powder slurry.
4. Mix well and cook in a low flame for 15- 20 mins. After that allow it to cool completely.
5. In a blender add in the coconut, green chilli, cumin seeds and buttermilk and blend it to a fine paste.
6. Add this to the cooled down ragi bajra porridge and mix well.
7. At the time of having the porridge add in the required salt butter milk and chopped shallots and have the porridge.
Goes well for breakfast or as a whole meal any time.

Ragi Bajra Porridge | Ragi Kambu Koozh
Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Ragi Powder
- 2 tbsp Bajra Powder
- 4.5 cups Water ½ cup + 4 cups
To Grind:
- 2 tbsp Coconut
- 2 tbsp Fermented Rice Optional
- 1 Green Chilli
- ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
- 2 tbsp Butter milk
Other Ingredients:
- Shallot ( Small Onions) as needed
- Salt as needed
- Buttermilk as needed
Instructions
- In a bowl pan add in the Ragi powder and Bajra powder add in half cup of water and mix well.
- Mix well such that it has no lumps and smooth. In another vessel add in 4 cups of water and bring it to boil.
- Once it stats boiling add in the Ragi bajra powder slurry.
- Mix well and cook in a low flame for 15- 20 mins. After that allow it to cool completely.
- In a blender add in the coconut, green chilli, cumin seeds and buttermilk and blend it to a fine paste.

Notes
- Can be stored in fridge for 2 days after preparing the porridge at the time of consuming add in the ground coconut paste, salt and buttermilk.
- Makes a healthy and filling breakfast or meal.
