Rose kozhukattai or Steamed Rose Shaped Dumplings Recipe with step by step pictures . Kozhukattai is an important food when it comes to Ganesha Festival.
Everyone tries to make different types of kozhukattai using their creative , the best part about this kozhukatti is the out part is almost the same in most of it and the inner stuffing differs.
Rose Kozhukattai is a lovely twist from the regular kozhukattai made for the Vinayagar Chaturthi . I have used the normal Rice Flour or Kozhukattai Flour and the inner filling i used is of the Rose Ladoo's. Finally Stuffed ,Shapped and made as a Rose Kozhukattai.
The recipe is inspired from sandhya's blog . I was familiar to her through our Blogging Marathon .Since last year i have been waiting to try and finally amde it.

Feel free to use your types of creativity in the kozhukattai filling. The most common types of filling is with coconut jaggery and with seasme seeds, coconut and jaggery.
Also both sweet and savory versions of kozhukattai are also done.

How to prepare Rose Kozhukattai ,with Step by Step Pictures:
1.Heat a sauce pan with Water, To this add in Salt and sesame oil.Wait till the Water comes to a boil.
2.In another bowl add in the Idiyappam Flour and keep it ready. Add in the boiling water in small batches ,with the help of a ladle or whisk keep on stirring and mixing the water till necessary and the dough is very smooth.
3.Allow the dough to cool down till the heat is bearable .the start kneading the dough to a soft ball. Roll it into very small sized balls out of all the doughs.
4. In a pan add in the grated coconut .Saute in a low flame until the moisture is completely gone. It might take 3 mins in low flame.Next add in ⅓ cup Sweetened Condensed Milk,
5. Combine everything together. Add in the beetroot juice and Rose essence together .
6.Mix well and cook until the mixture thickens , If you hold a ladoo it should hold the shape that is the correct consistency. Switch off at this Stage . Also the mixture thickens a little as it cools down.
7.Take a kozhukattai and press it in between your palms or roll it into a very thin disc. Repeat this for 3 such discs and place the discs such that the corners are overlapping each other.Keep the prepared filling above the kozhukattai.
8. Now roll it so that it resembles a rose bud.Grease a idli pan with oil or use any steamer .
9.Place the prepare Rose kozhukattai and steam cook in a medium flame for about 8 mins.Delicious Rose kozhukattai is now ready to be served.

Rose kozhukattai | Steamed Rose Shaped Dumplings
Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml
Ingredients
For Kozhukattai Dough
- 1 cup Rice Flour
- 1.5 Cups Water
- 1 tsp Sesame oil
- ¼ tsp Salt
For Kozhukattai Stuffing
- ½ cup Grated Coconut
- ⅓ cup Condensed milk
- 1 tbsp Beetroot Juice optional . Instead Red Food color can be added
- 1 tsp Rose Essence
Instructions
For Kozhukattai Outer Dough

Notes
- You can also use store bought kozhukattai flour or idiyappam flour for preparing the kozhukattai.
- Use red food color for a bright red colour.
- The colour of the filling will reduce a little after its being cooked ,so adjust it accordingly.
- You can use any favorite stuffing of yours.
