Sura Puttu | Meen Puttu | Shredded Fish Stir Fry

Sura Puttu or Meen Puttu is a yummy delicacy prepared with paal sura or shark fish. It has medicinal properties and good for lactating mothers.

Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml

Ingredients

  • ½ kg Fish steam cook or boil the fish with salt and turmeric powder
  • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  • ½ tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 1 sprig Curry Leaves
  • 3 Green Chilli
  • 1 Onion
  • 6 clove Garlic
  • 1 inch piece Ginger
  • 1 tsp Chilli powder
  • ½ tsp Pepper powder
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt as needed
  • 4 tbsp grated coconut
  • Coriander leaves to garnish

Instructions 

Cook the Fish

  • In a pan add in water once it boils add in a required salt and a pinch of turmeric powder and cook the fish till it’s done and switch off the flame.
  • Allow it to cool down and then. Remove the bones from the fish and shred the fish in to small pieces.

How to Cook Meen Puttu

  • Heat oil in a pan once it heats up add in Mustad Seeds, fennel seeds, urad dal.
  • Let it splutter and then add in curry leaves and ginger garlic paste. Cook till the raw smell leaves.
  • Then add in chopped onions and green chilli. Cook till they turn glossy
  • Next add in Chili powder, Turmeric powder, Pepper powder and the required salt and cook in a low flame for 2 mins
  • Next add in the shredded fish pieces and saute in a low flame for 5 mins.
  • Finally add in freshly grated coconut and mix well.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the flame. Serve hot with rice.
