Dal tadka is a popular Indian Lentils dish made with toor ( Split Pigeon peas) dal along with spices and a tadka made of ghee. Goes well with all flatbreads and Cumin Rice.
Wash the Toor dal really well and add it to a pressure cooker. /cook the dal for 4-5 whistles on a medium flame or until the dal is cooked well. Once the pressure is released completely open the cooker and mash the dal and set it aside.
In a pan add ghee once it heats up add in the ingredients mentioned under “seasoning 1” one by one. Next, add in the chopped onions and cook till they become glossy. Then add in the ginger garlic paste and cook till the raw smell leaves.
Now add in the chopped tomatoes and cook till they become mushy. Next add the Red Chilli powder, Turmeric powder Coriander powder, and the required salt. Cook till the masala is evenly mixed and then add the cooked dal.
Add the required water and mix well. Once it comes to a boil switch off the flame. Now prepare the second seasoning with the ingredients mentioned under the “Seasoning 2” table. Add the tadka to the dal and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Dal Tadka is now ready to serve.
Notes
· Goes well with Roti or Jeera Rice.
· While preparing the seasoning 2 make sure you don’t burn the masala hence do it in a low flame.
· Make sure you add only ghee in this recipe and it gives a unique taste.
