Dry Fruits Modak

Modak is a ganesh Chaturthi recipe made with rice flour and any filling of our choice and then steam cooked. It is made as an offering for the god during festivals.

Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml

Ingredients

  • Rice Flour – 1 cup
  • Salt a pinch
  • Water – 1 cup
  • To Grind:
  • Dates – 6
  • Cashew nuts – 8
  • Almonds – 6
  • Pistachios – 5
  • Walnut - 4

Instructions 

  • Add salt to rice flour and keep it aside. Bring water to boil.
  • When the water is boiling hot add the water little by little to the rice flour. Slowly mix it with the back side of the ladle.
  • When the heat is bearable knead it to a soft dough with the hands and set it aside. Now let’s make the dry fruits filling. In a blender add the dates, cashew nuts, Almonds, Pistachios and Walnut.
  • Blend it to a smooth are coarse paste as you prefer. Now pinch a portion of the kneaded dough and keep the t inside the modak mould and close it. Remove the excess dough. Make a small hole in the centre for the filling.
  • Keep the filling inside and then seal it with the dough to close it.
  • Now steam it for around 10-12 mins till the Modak becomes shiny and fully cooked.

Notes

  •  Prepare for the festival .The same recipe can be made with any filling of your choice.
  •  Use really hot boiling water to knead the dough.
