Prawn Chukka Masala

Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml


  • Prawn – ½ kg
  • Salt as needed
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Coconut Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Fennel Seeds -1 tsp
  • Curry Leaves 2 springs
  • Onion – 1 big
  • Water – ¼ cup
  • Pepper powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander leaves to garnish

To Grind:

  • Coconut – ¼ cup
  • Garlic pods – 6
  • Ginger – 1 small piece
  • Fennel Seeds – 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder – ½ tsp


  • In a blender add in the ingredients mentioned under the “To Grind” section and blend them to a coarse paste.
  • Add the blended masala to the cleaned prawn along with salt and turmeric powder. Mix well and allow it to marinate for 30 mins.
  • After 30 mins. Heat a pan with oil once hot add in the mustard seeds and Fennel seeds. let them splutter and then add in the curry leaves and then onion.
  • Cook until the onions turn glossy and then add in the marinated prawn mix well.
  • Add ¼ cup of water. Mix everything together and cook until the prawns are cooked and becomes dry. Finally add in the pepper powder give a good mix and switch off the flame. Garnish with coriander leaves.



  • Serve hot with Rice or Roti.
  • Make sure you use coconut oil for cooking which gives a yummy flavour.
