Dry Roast the moong dal till you get a nice aroma, in a pressure cooker, add in the roasted moong dal along with Onion, garlic and required water.
Cook for 4 whistles in a medium flame and wait till the pressure gets released on its own. Meanwhile, grind the coconut and cumin seeds together by adding little water to a fine paste.
Mashed the cooked dal with a ladle, to this next add in turmeric powder, Chilli powder, and the required salt along with the ground coconut puree.
Mix well. If it’s too thick add little water and bring it to a gravy consistency. Heat a pan with oil /ghee to this add in the mustard seeds and cumin seeds, then dry red chili, Hing, and curry leaves.
To this add in the dal. Cook in a medium flame till comes to a boil and switch off.

· Goes well with appam and idiyappam.
· Garnish with coriander leaves if you prefer.
