Mashed Spinach | Keerai Kadayal | Arai Keerai Masiyal

Mashed Spinach is one quick recipe made within 15 mins and with just a few ingredients. The taste mainly comes from the onion and garlic added and they are cooked in oil.

  • Spinach – 1 bunch
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Onion – 2
  • Garlic – 5 pods
  • Green Chilli - 1
  • Salt as needed


  • Heat a pan with oil once hot add in the garlic pods and green chilli let them fry and then add in the onions, saute till glossy. Wash the spinach well, immerse it in water for 10 mins and then clean it to remove the dust. Chop them and then add it into the pan.
  • The spinach will wilt and reduce in volume in some time. Add in the required salt and cook in a medium flame.
  • Once its fully cooked. Switch off the flame. Using a blender puree the cooked spinach. Serve with rice drizzled in ghee.


  • Any variety of spinach can be used.
  • Clean the spinach well to remove the dust and mud particles and then use.
  • Onions give a nice sweetness to the spinach. Shallots can also be used.
  • Can be served kids.
