Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml

Equipment

  • Oven

Ingredients

  • All-purpose Flour / Maida – 1 cup
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp
  • Baking Soda - ⅛ tsp
  • Un Salted Butter – 4 tbsp
  • Chilled Buttermilk – ⅓ cup
  • Milk for brushing the biscuits

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl add All-purpose Flour, Salt, Baking powder, and Baking Soda.
  • Add in the Butter to this, let the butter be chilled one. Rub it with the fingers and mix well along with the dry ingredients. Mix well along until everything is completely mixed. The flour mixture resembles crumbled now.
  • Put it in the freezer for 10 mins.
  • Now add the chilled buttermilk to the flour mixture, mix together, and knead the dough. Knead the flour back and forth and then flatten it with a rolling pin with ½ inch thickness.
  • Using a cookie cutter cut the biscuits and place them in a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush the top of the biscuits with milk or buttermilk
  • Preheat the oven at 180 Deg C for 10 mins and then bake at 180 Deg for about 20 mins or until the cookies slightly golden.
  • Allow the cookies to cool completely and then store in airtight containers.

Notes

Baking time may vary from oven to oven so keeps a check after 12- 15 mins.
The flaky layer is because of the chilled butter and its reaction with the other ingredients, so don’t change the recipe measurements.
Serve with Chocolate sauce or any Jam.
