Naatu Kozhi Roast

Naatu Kozhi Roast is a flavorful chicken roast recipe. In this recipe chicken is slow cooked with spices and coconut to bring in the taste and it makes this dish a yummy one.

Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml


  • Chicken – ½ kg
  • Shallots / small onions – 12-15
  • Curry leaves a spring
  • Tomato - 1
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tbsp
  • Salt as needed
  • Garam Masala – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves to garnish

To Roast and Grind

  • Grated coconut – ½ cup
  • Curry Leaves a spring
  • Cinnamon stick an inch piece
  • Cardamom – 2
  • Cloves – 2


  • In a heavy bottomed kadai add in the cleaned chicken along with curry Leaves, small onions and tomato.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and the required water and cook in a medium flame.
  • Meanwhile in another kadai Dry roast the ingredients mentioned in the “TO Roast and Grind” section until golden brown. Add in little water and grind to a fine puree.
  • 4 . Cook the chicken for 15 mins and then to this add in Turmeric powder.
  • Next add in Chilli powder,Garam Masala, Coriander Powder and the Salt
  • Mix well and then add in the coconut paste .Simmer and cook till the mixture becomes dry in a low flame.
  • Finally garnish with coriander leaves and switch off the flame.


· Serve with Rice or Roti.
· It takes about 30 – 40 mins to get done, don’t hurry .Cook in a medium low flame.
