Tandoori salad
Whenever you have to put up an exotic meal or in case you have some leftover chicken, you definitely can think of this yummy salad. With a little prep work, salad can be put together in minutes.
You can marinate the tandoori chicken or even cook them and store them in zip locks. The dressing also stores well in the refrigerator. Chop the veggies in portions and store them in the fridge container.
Now all the ingredients are ready and wow, our meal is ready in just a few mins. Who doesn't love such an interesting chicken tandoori salad!!
Ingredients
For Chicken
Chicken - Use chicken drumstick pieces. These pieces are best suited for tandoori chicken. However, you may also use any chicken pieces with bones. Draw slits in the chicken and then use. This helps the masala gets deeper inside the chicken making it juicier.
Yogurt - Use thick greek yogurt for a more creamy marinade.
Ginger garlic paste- Ginger and garlic add a lot of flavor to the chicken.
Spice powders- Using a variety of spice powders and I have given the quantity in the recipe card below.
Dried fenugreek leaves - These add flavor to the chicken and they are available in all Indian groceries. You can skip it if you are not able to source.
Oil - You can use any edible cooking oil. I used peanut oil. Oil helps in binding the marinade together.
Salad Dressing :
Cream - Go with fresh cream it pairs well with the chicken.
Mayonnaise - It gives the dressing a creamy finish and it has a wonderful taste.
Garlic powder - Makes a perfect aroma and it is a must-add.
Red Chilli flakes - Adds a lovely spice to the dressing.
Spring onion & Cilantro - They add a yummy crunch and flavor to the salad.
Salad Veggies
Lettuce - Use is going the arrange the salad in a bed of lettuce. They are perfect for any salad with chicken. You may use an iceberg or romaine lettuce.
Cucumber - Use English cucumbers. Adds a nice volume and goes well with the salad.
Cherry Tomato - Use both red and yellow tomatoes for a lovely pop of color in the salad.
Onion - I am using red onions. Adding a few slices of onions adds a perfect balance to the salad.
How to make chicken tandoori salad
1.In a mixing bowl add the thick yogurt.
2. Next, add in all the spice powder and ginger garlic paste.
3. Also, add 1 tbsp of oil.
4. Combine everything and prepare the marinade.
5. Now take the chicken drumsticks. Draw slits. Apply the prepared marinade generously over the chicken and let it marinate overnight or for at least 1 hour.
6. Preheat the air fryer for 5 mins. Spray the basket with oil or brush with some oil. And, then arrange the marinated chicken in the air fryer baskets. Brush in oil over the marinated chicken.
7. Airfry them at 200 Deg C (392 F) for 14 mins. Shake the chicken once halfway and then air fry. If you need more of a char you may air fry for another 2 mins. Once the chicken is cooked insert a digital thermometer to the thickest part and make sure it is 165 F.
Tandoori chicken salad dressing
8. Add the fresh cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, chili flakes, salt, and spring onions to a bowl and whisk well until combined. Add 1 or 2 tbsp water if you prefer it more watery. Refrigerate until use. You can also prep the dressing ahead of time.
Assemble the salad
9. In a large serving bowl arrange the chopped lettuce and chopped cucumber. slice the cherry tomatoes into two or three halves and put them too. Place the celery sticks, chopped Cilantro, and sliced onion. Top them with the cooked Tandoori Chicken. I am using air fryer Tandoori Chicken. Now pour in the prepared dressing over the salad and gently combine and serve immediately.
Tips & Variations
- If you feel the salad is dry, add more dressing and then serve. Or you can use the prepared dressing as a dip and serve the salad.
- You may also drizzle some lemon juice on the chicken to make it juicier.
- You can also add more herbs to the salad if you like the flavor.
- After drizzling the lemon juice or the dressing serve the salad immediately So that the salad stays fresh and yummy.
- Instead of the tandoori chicken, you can use any leftover chicken in this salad.
- Grilled Chicken or even Chicken 65 perfectly matches.

Tandoori Chicken Salad
Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml
Equipment

Ingredients
To Marinate
- 4 Chicken drumsticks
- ¼ cup Yogurt
- 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
- 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chili powder
- ½ tsp Cumin powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
- ½ tsp Pepper Powder
- Salt to taste
- ½ tsp Dried fenugreek leaves Kasoori Methi
- 1 tbsp Oil
Salad Dressing
- ½ cup Fresh Cream
- ¼ cup Mayonaise
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tbsp Red Chilli Flakes
- Salt as needed
- 2 tbsp Spring onion
Salad Ingredients
- 2 cup Lettuce
- ½ cup Cherry Tomato
- ½ cup Cucumber
- 2 stalks Celery small
- ¼ cup Onion
- 2 tbsp Cilantro
Instructions
