    What is Holi

    Holi is a Spring festival celebrated across India, It is also called as Festival of Colours, It also indicates the Start of the Spring season after the Winter.

    People celebrate Holi by throwing colors and color waters. As a thumb rule in all Indian Festivals, food plays an important Role. Some of the Customary Holi foods are Bhang, Thandai, Gujiya, Milk Peda, and many more.

    Ingredients Thandai Powder

    Thandai Powder recipe is an instant nuts powder that we use in preparing Thandai which is a Holi special drink. It comes in handy for Thandai. Homemade Thandai powder is a perfect blend this season. It comes in handy for the festival days.

    Nuts & Seeds - We add Almonds, Cashew nuts, Pistachios are a proper portion for the homemade thandai masala recipe. Additionally we also add melon seeds.

    Fennel seeds - Adds an authentic and earthy aroma to the thandai mix.

    Black Pepper - Gives a nice tint of spiciness.

    Dried Rose Petals - This makes a rich addition to the masala blend. You can replace rose petals with gulkand too.

    Saffron - another important not to miss ingredient. Adds more richness to the thandai powder.

    How to prepare Thandai Powder

    1. In a blender add in all the ingredients, Blend everything to a coarse powder. Store and use it for making Thandai. Will share the Thandai recipe soon.

    It is indeed good for health with the addition of nuts and seeds. You can add it to your regular miilk and flavor it. You can also add to your desserts. Adding to kheer or halwa works well.

    Storage Suggestions

    It lasts up to 2 months. Grind and store in an air tight container to maintain the freshness.

    Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml

    Ingredients

    • ¼ cup Almonds / Badam
    • ¼ cup Cashew Nuts
    • 2 tbsp Pistachios
    • 1 tbsp Poppy Seeds
    • 15 Pepper Corns
    • 1 tbsp Fennel Seeds
    • Saffron few strands
    • 1 tbsp Rose Petals or Gulkand
    • 1 tbsp Melon Seeds

    Instructions 

    • In a blender add in all the ingredients, blend everything to a coarse powder.
    • Store and use it for making Thandai.

    Notes

    The ground masala can be stored in air-tight containers for up to months together.
    Boil milk and use the Thandai Masala mix and prepare it readily and easily. I dint have melon seeds handy, so I didn't use them.
