Masoor Dal recipe | Masoor Dal Tadka | Red Lentil Fry with Step by step photos. Masoor Dal which is otherwise called Red Lentil is healthy, it has so many health benefits. So I tried an easy and simple Dal tadka to go with Rice and Roti.
You can also replace toor dal with masoor dal in the sambar you prepare or can add a portion of masoor dal along with the regular toor dal while preparing sambar. Masoor Dal tadka goes well with both Rice and Rice. Now let's see how to prepare Masoor Dal Tadka.
How to make Masoor Dal
2. Close the cooker and pressure for 4 whistles on a medium flame. Wait till the pressure subsides naturally and then open the cooker. Mash the dal after opening the cooker with a ladle.
3. To this add the Salt, Chilli powder and turmeric powder.
4. Mix well and add the required water and bring it to the right consistency now allow this to cook till the dal come to a boil and switch off the flame.
5. Heat a tadka pan with ghee to this add in Cumin seeds,Hing and Bay leaf.
6. Add crushed ginger, Garam Masala and Curry leaves
7. .Now pour this to the prepared Dal. Serve hot

Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml
Ingredients
- Masoor Dal – ½ cup
- Onion – 1
- Tomato – 1
- Garlic – 5 pods
- Salt as needed
- Red Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Ghee – 1 tbsp
- Bay leaf – 1
- Hing /Asafetida – a generous pinch
- Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
- Dry Red Chilli – 3
- Garam Masala – ½ tsp
- Ginger a small piece
- Curry Leaves a spring
Instructions
- In a pressure cooker add in the masoor dal, Wash well and then add in chopped onions, tomatoes and peel Garlic pods.
- Close the cooker and pressure for 4 whistles in a medium flame. Wait till the pressure subsides naturally and then open the cooker. Mash the dal after opening the cooker with a ladle.
- To this add in the Salt, Chilli powder and turmeric powder.
- Mix well and add the required water and bring it to the right consistency now allow this to cook till the dal comes to a boil and switch off the flame.
- Heat a tadka pan with ghee to this add in Cumin seeds,Hing and Bay leaf.
- Add crushed ginger, Garam Masala and Curry leaves .Now pour this to the prepared Dal. Serve hot
Notes
· You can replace ghee with any cooking oil but with ghee it tastes more flavourful.
