    What are Hasselback Poatato

Hasselback potatoes were created first in a Swedish restaurant named Hasselbacken by a trainee chef. It is a method of cooking potatoes by slicing them halfway, like a fan-like slice, and the edges are left intact.

Why you will love this recipe

    • Easy to prepare with minimal ingredients
    • Beginner friendly and perfect for any parties or potlucks.
    • Freezer friendly and easy to meal prep.
    • Kids friendly and perfect for a snack box too.
    Hasselback Potatoes Ingredients

Potatao - Use any uniform sized potato. Russet potato, Yukon gold, or even red potato works well.

Butter - Be generous with the butter here as it gives more flavor and helps in the perfect texture.

Garlic - I usually crush or grate potatoes and add them\

Salt and Pepper - The basic ingredients for tasting.

Cilantro - Garnish with finely chopped cilantro or parsley and serve the potatoes.

    Different variation of Hasselback potato

The method I have mentioned here is the basic simple method but feel free to add more flavor as per your preference.

You may also try peri peri flavor. Add 1 tsp of peri peri powder to melted butter and apply over the potatoes.

We can also try smoked paprika powder, Italian seasonings, dried herbs, or any of your favorite seasonings.

All kinds of dried herbs go well. Parsely, rosemary, thyme, and basil work well.

You can also try adding onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and sweet paprika.

If you like cheesy hasselback potato, you can also try adding some cheese powder too.

Place any two wooden spatulas or chopsticks or wooden skewers and balance the potato between them.

In a bowl take melted butter.

To this add salt, pepper, and crushed garlic.

Whisk everything and the dressing is ready

    Prep the potato.

    Tips & Tricks

    • Yukon gold, Russets or Red Potato suits well for Hasselback potato. But it typically can be cooked in any potato variety.
    • I usually have a skewer or chopsticks and then place my potato in between for balance and then keep slicing the potato.
    • You can try chopsticks or a wooden spatula too.
    • That way it doesn't get slipped and is perfectly balanced.
    • Always pick uniform-sized potatoes and make sure all the slices are of uniform thickness. This helps the potato cook uniformly.
    • Perfect to make a ⅛th ¼th inch thickness slice. Not more or less.
    • Make sure to brush the potato with enough butter or oil for a perfect crispy potato.
    • There is also a hasselback potato cutter online. You can also buy and use it if you find it difficult to cut.

    Serving Options

They are at their best and crisp when they are just out of the air fryer or oven. You can actually cook for a few mins and do the final cooking before your serve.

    Serving Suggestions

Storing the hasselback potato will lose its crispiness. Hence I suggest cook and serve immediately. You can definitely slice the potato and freeze it and use it as you need. But brush with butter, cook, and serve immediately
